A
delightful 1998 home, about 50 yards from the Westfield River,
in the glorious Berkshire Hills. The 400 yards of river frontage and the 44 acre wooded plot abound with wild
life. This is a unique opportunity to combine a rural retreat, where from your doorstep
you may see black bears (they are very timid), beavers, deer,
porcupines, or even a wild turkey, with enjoyment of the many
activities of the Berkshires within a short drive. With locally grown polished ash floors throughout, the centrally heated house
is comfortably furnished and very well equipped. There is a fully fitted kitchen with a gas cooker, dishwasher, breakfast bar
and place settings for 8. The entrance hall opens into the wood-lined open plan kitchen/sitting/dining
room with a cathedral ceiling. A dining table, two sofa beds, telephone, TV, VCR and CD player furnish this
area and the panoramic sliding window provides access onto
the wraparound deck. Two queen bedrooms with hanging cupboards, and a full bathroom (with shower
over bath). Stairs to private storage in the basement. Upstairs is the master king bedroom with a walk-in cupboard and en suite bathroom
(with shower over bath). This room opens onto a minstrels' gallery from where there are wooded views over
the river. There is a utility room with a washer/dryer. Welcome pack. Garden furniture and BBQ.
There is a separate one bedroom apartment over the adjoining
double garage for a live-in caretaker who is willing to babysit
and clean the house at the end of the let, by arrangement.
Swimming in the river or Plainfield Lake (2 miles). Country
store about 4 miles, better supplies at Dalton about 13 miles
towards Pittsfield. Pittsfield 18 miles, Goshen 12 miles, Shelburne Falls via Goshen 27 miles.
Our holiday was wonderful (at the Mathewson
Home), the weather was in the 90s for the first week and 80s
for the second ... bliss. The river was way down which was more manageable from a seven year old's perspective
and we made nightly forays to watch the beavers. Scarlett (the caretaker) was a great help. Mrs M. |
