| EASTHAM
- Cape Cod, Massachusetts |
| |
| Located between Orleans and Provincetown,
there are golden sandy public beaches on the Atlantic - Nauset
Beach - and on Cape Cod Bay - First Encounter Beach. This was where the Pilgrim Fathers first met the Nauset Indians in 1620. The National Seashore Visitor Centre is well worth a visit and explains the
formation of Cape Cod, its animals and plants, good for a pit
stop if you are biking on the Cape Cod Rail Trail. This is a 26-mile walking and biking trail that stretches from Dennis through
Eastham to Wellfleet and passes alongside salt marshes, fresh
water ponds and groves of trees. Bikes can be hired in Brewster. In 1903 Marconi transmitted the world's first wireless message from nearby. |

location beside cove Dock Boat or canoe Deck |
|
This
is one of a select group of 5 houses clustered around a large
lawn, along the banks of a tidal cove. Built in the 1930s they have been recently modernised and are comfortably furnished. There is a 100 foot dock for swimming and fishing and a selection of rowing
boats, canoes and pedal boats for exploring around the cove. The caretaker lives on site and is a 'mine of local information'. The Pilot House is located only 60 feet from the water. There is a large deck with outdoor furniture, umbrella, BBQ and an outdoor shower. It does retain its old world charm with traditional wooden panelling, polished
floors and carpets, fireplace, colour cable TV and VCR. Well equipped kitchen with dining area and sliding windows onto the deck. A queen bedroom adjoins the bathroom and the second bedroom has 2 singles.
The other houses are nearer the water with decks and are also
available to rent. |
