Built
in the 1860s this was the retirement home of Captain William Crowell,
a well-heeled whaling captain. The house passed through several
generations, each adding more charm and unique features to the house
until it was carefully renovated and turned into a small B & B. Easy
walking distance to the shops and restaurants in town or enjoy a stroll
down Main Street and catch a round-the-island bus or hop on the Chappy
ferry to explore Chappaquiddick Island. The B & B
has a selection of bedrooms that include four posters and canopy beds,
tastefully decorated with period antiques. A large sitting room
with TV and library and adjoining breakfast room. The garden
is great for relaxation after a footslogging day exploring the sights
or just wander up the road to Cannonball Park, so named after a British
Bombardment. |

| The sister hotel opened for business in 1742, 100 years after the first European settlement in Martha's Vineyard. Originally a tavern, the establishment served as a gathering place for the growing community of Edgartown. The white clapboard exterior with dark window shutters is typical of early 18th century architecture. The interior lobby still boasts a central fireplace, bringing back memories of the days when the great hearth was the centre of the inn's activity. Ideally located near the waterfront in downtown Edgartown, near the Chappaquiddick Ferry. The hotel has 60 guest rooms, including eight one and two bedroom suites. Balconies and kitchen facilities are featured in a select number of suites. All guest rooms are climate controlled and have colour TV with cable, AM/FM radio, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, robes and umbrellas. The outdoor pool offers a view of Edgartown Harbor. The Newes is a Colonial vintage pub that offers light, casual dining in an old world atmosphere as well as a number of choice micro-brewed beers and ales on tap. |
