The
wonderful, ever-changing views from this mid-1800s B & B have to
be seen at all stages of the tide. Walk across to Brown's Island
at low tide for a swim or stroll into town (about 1 mile) to explore
the historic sights, shops, galleries and restaurants. Located
in the old part of Marblehead amidst narrow winding streets and 17th
century homes, the B & B has three bedrooms. The king room
can also be 2 singles, has water views, large dressing room, private
bath and sitting area with cable TV and a private entrance. The
other two bedrooms are on the second floor and share a bathroom, also
have ocean views, one with a queen bed and TV and the other with a
double and TV. There is room for an extra single bed in each
of these rooms. A continental breakfast is served in the kitchen. Children
over 12. |

This historic house overlooks Gloucester Harbor
and is across the boulevard from the famous Gloucester Fisherman statue,
and within walking distance of beaches, parks, museums, galleries,
shops and restaurants. The oldest part of the house was built
by William Stevens in about 1740 and was part of a larger land grant. Stevens
was a well-known shipwright and was one of the first to speak out against
British tyranny. The house is made up of three sections: the
main house (built around 1740) and two wings (completed around 1860),
forming a large 'U'. To create the B & B, the owners filled
the centre of that 'U' with a glass atrium. It houses the main
staircase and the entrance to the inn, reached through the secluded
rose garden with fountain at the back of the house. There
are three nicely appointed suites, which can sleep from 2 to 6 comfortably. Each
has private bath, TV, AC, phone and breakfast area with refrigerator,
microwave, toaster and coffee maker. Your host will provide breakfast
foods, self-served by guests. Amenities include a coin-op laundry
and off street parking. This is a smoke free environment. Open
year round. Families with children welcome.
The 'William Stevens Suite' is on the second floor with a view of Gloucester
harbour. The main bedroom has a king bed, which can be converted
into two singles. A spiral staircase leads up to a loft, which
provides an extra sleeping area, beneath the original wood beams. The
ceilings in the loft are low, making it a perfect cosy place for children.
The 'Nancy Proctor Suite', also on the second floor, has one bedroom
with queen bed (with harbour views) and a TV room with twin trundles. The
private bath features a steam shower. The spacious breakfast/sitting
area leads to an outside deck.
The ground floor 'Babson Suite' can sleep up to 6, with a queen bed in
an alcove off the front parlour and two smaller bedrooms, one double
and one with 2 singles. Small deck and views of the Fisherman statue
and the harbour. |
