Smoking:
We have a no smoking policy in our houses and B & Bs - outside
only please. |
Cots & Playpens:
These can be hired reasonably in most areas; let us know your
requirements. |
Deck:
Usually an open air wooden patio or balcony with railings around,
where you can enjoy a barbecue or sit out on a deck chair and
admire the sunsets. |
Cathedral Ceilings:
These are to be found in many houses where there is a large ground
floor kitchen/sitting room/dining room with the ceiling going
up to the roof, with large glass windows (looking out to the
view) and skylights that make the room very light. Upstairs
will normally have a balcony overlooking the living area with
bedrooms leading off. |
Basement:
Many houses have these for use as utility/laundry rooms. Where
they are part of the accommodation they are of a similar standard
to upstairs, with windows and often with sliding French windows
to the garden. In some houses, saunas, hot tubs, bedrooms,
bathrooms, family dens complete with woodburning stove, sofa
beds and TVs, and games rooms are found in the basement. |
Lofts:
Usually an open landing, with beds or sofa beds (as described)
affording some but not very much privacy. |
Half Bathroom:
Will consist of a WC and wash basin with or without a shower. |
Kitchens:
Well equipped with giant fridges, cooking stoves but may not
have electric kettles, teapot or irons; dishwashers and washer/dryers
are as described. |
Washing Machines & Dishwashers:
Some lakeside houses do not have these to avoid polluting the
lake. |
Linens:
One set of sheets will be provided for the appropriate number
of beds related to each person named on the booking form. Tea
towels, bath towels and flannels will be provided, but not
normally beach towels. |
Bed Making:
In most locations beds will be made on your arrival but sometimes
you may have to collect linens with your keys and make up your
own beds. This is the traditional New England way. |
Boats, Canoes & Bikes:
Where provided, you will be required to sign a liability disclaimer
prior to use. |
Insects:
There are biting insects to a greater or lesser degree depending
on location and time of year. We recommend use of an
insect repellent and if in doubt consult a doctor. |
Appliances:
You can expect these to be in good condition but sometimes repairs
may take 1 or 2 days. |
Cleaning:
You are expected to leave the house clean, hoovered through,
with beds stripped and linens returned. If you need a
cleaner let us know in good time; this will be an additional
charge. |
